Normal variants: Trigeminal artery

The trigeminal artery is usually large and tends to opacify the contralateral posterior cerebral artery and superior cerebellar arteries because of the direction of flow.

Case #2

Case #2a

AP left common carotid angiogram shows filling of the upper half of the basilar artery, the right posterior cerebellar artery  and the right superior cerebellar arteries.  The diagonal artery joining the cavernous portion of the internal carotid artery with the mid-basilar artery is the persistent primitive trigeminal artery.

Case #2b

Lateral left common carotid angiogram again shows filling of the upper half of the basilar artery, the right posterior cerebellar artery  and the right superior cerebellar arteries via the persistent trigeminal artery.
