Interpretation: The Basics

General guidelines:

  • Interpretation must be based first on morphology, and second on enhancement pattern, if morphologically indeterminant.

  • Enhancement characteristics alone are not reliable.

  • The associated mammographic and ultrasound findings must also be considered.

  • When findings are discordant, the most suspicious finding should guide clinical decision making

Biopsy recommended if any of the following are present:

  • Suspicious morphology

  • Suspicious enhancement (Kuhl type II or III curve)

  • Suspicious on ultrasound or mammography

Follow-up recommended if:

  • Benign morphology and

  • Probably benign enhancement (Kuhl type I curve) and

  • Benign appearance on ultrasound and/or mammography
